Crock-Pot Lift & Serve Digital Slow Cooker with Hinged Lid and Programmable Countdown Timer, 4.7 Litre, CSC052
While Crock-Pot slow cookers are not strictly smart products, they have many smart characteristics! The best one is time-saving!
There was a time in my life when my husband and I, like so many other people, were working round the clock with 3 little kids in tow! Our Crock-Pot slow cooker was our saving grace. We didn’t have the energy to come home after work and taxiing the kids to then start cooking a meal.
It’s not that I don’t like cooking – in fact, I enjoy it but I want to do other things too.
So enter the Crock-Pot slow cooker.
Crock-Pot Lift & Serve Digital Slow Cooker with Hinged Lid and Programmable Countdown Timer, 4.7 Litre, CSC052
A lot of my friends will not use a slow cooker because they are afraid they will start a fire if they forget it was on or get delayed or forget it is on.
The Crock-Pot Winning Features
Yup, love a Crock-Pot slow cooker. It has saved me soooo many stress hours.
Just like the little video says. There’s nothing better than opening your door after a long day and being greeted by wafts of curried chicken and potato or Irish stew.
Let’s have a look at the winning features.
- Easy-to-use locking lid with rubber gasket provides extra seal for less mess on-the-go
- Serves 7+ people
- 3.6-Quart Capacity
- Digital Countdown control lets you program cook-times anywhere from 30 minutes up to 20 hours
- Shifts to warm setting automatically once cook time is up
- Easy-Grip Handle
- Removable oval stoneware
- Durable Locking Hinged Lid detaches for easy cleaning
- Dishwasher-safe stoneware and glass lid
Automatic Switch to Warming
I think the top feature of this Crock-Pot slow cooker is the automatic switch to warm feature at the end of cooking. This convenient feature will keep the cooked meal warm until you arrive home.
This has been my godsend many times as meetings would over- run or I would have to make an extra stop on the way home. It also solves the number one slow cooker concern of my friends. They always say that they would forget the slow cooker is on so they don’t use one. They worry about burning food and possibly even starting a fire at home.
Programmable and Flexible
I really find the programmable feature very useful as well. I have owned about 4 crock-pots in my life. This Crock-Pot slow cooker model with the switch to warm and programming feature was the best…which is why I am telling you about it!
It means you can cook overnight or delay the start from 30 minutes to 20 hours! It also has 3 temperature settings which allows you to cook a variety of food without over cooking it (see recipes later)
Quite often I would put frozen chicken in my Crock-Pot slow cooker before I went to bed…with my spices. It would thaw and the spices would act as a seasoning/marinade. I would set my time for say 5 hours of cooking for a curry and thus was because the potatoes took longer to cook in the slow cooker. So because I was doing it at 11pm at night I could preset my cooker to 13 hours and delay the start for 8 – 9 hours.
I did this because in the rush of the morning I often forgot the on button! This way…I could forget about it!
Another cool feature is the lid which has a lock grip. It sounds like nothing but it’s a big deal because the lid is full of condensation and drips water all over the counter when you take it off and rest it somewhere!
By having the hinge you can open and the lid stays on and all the condensation will dribble back into the stoneware. No mess!
The lid is also great because it locks, which means you can drive with the stoneware and the lid won’t shift en route! Convenient!
Lastly, note that the lid and stoneware are dishwasher safe? No messy cleanups! Slow cooking will often leave baked on particles to the bowl but you don’t have to scrub!
Just soak in hot water to loosen it and then put it in the dishwasher. And because the lid is dishwasher proof AND DETACHABLE the handle won’t brake(as has happened to me with other models!) They kinds thought of everything, Crockpot!
About Crock Pot
The Crock-Pot® slow cooker, is used all over the world and came to market 40 – 50 years ago, initially as a bean cooker! Slow cookers are now included in many family memories as a recollection of favorite dishes and cooking aromas!
Today the Crock Pot slow cooker has evolved and owns many formats and ways of cooking.
The Crock-Pot® brand continues to advance with new innovations that meet the demands of today’s modern lifestyles and help fulfill self-expression of creative cooks at home. Benefits of Programmable Slow Cooking
1. Tougher cuts will fall off the bone.
Chicken pork, beef, lamb. When these are cooked quickly they lose moisture and can be tough. With a slow cooker, throw them in with a few spices and leave for 4-6 hours and g out! When you return to serve up, those meats will be juicy and tender. It also means you can buy less expensive meats because slow cooking improves their quality!
2. Healthy Meals
When you are rushing with work, you can often opt for fast food which is often more unhealthy with sugars and fasts. This way you know EXACTLY what is going into your meal and you provide and train your family to opt for healthier meals.
3. Time Saving
I cannot stress this enough. When working all day I LOVED coming home to my crock pot stews, curries and soups, ready to spoon up! Often I would stick on some pasta or rice and go change. It would be done ready for the table when I came back to the kitchen. Bliss!
4. Reduced Washing Up
Maybe people don’t care about less washing up with all the dishwashers in existence. Its in one pot…therefore less washing up!
5. Really Safe
It is a great benefit have the automatic shut-off. It calms many fears that the slow cooker is not dependent on you being there to switch it off. Not all slow cookers have this feature.
I would highly recommend only buying slow cookers that have an automatic shut-off. The fact that this crock-pot switches to a warming feature is great because your meal is still warm if you arrive home after delays!
Tips and Tricks
A lot of people don’t know HOW to cook with Crock-pot slow cookers and get frustrated after one try. So being a slow cooker fan, here are my tips.
1. Slow cooking is different to stove top and oven cooking in that all the moisture is retained when slow cooking while it evaporates with stove top and oven cooking. This is because it is cooked slowly under a lid. The slower process under lid retains any juices.
As a result slow cooking needs less than half the amounts of liquids added in comparison to over and cook top dishes. If you add too much liquid your pot will be runny.
RULE: Add much less (very little liquids to your food prep in a slow cooker)
2. Slow cooking also absorbs much more flavouring to food than oven /cook top foods. This is because, as above, evaporation occurs much less with slow cooking. So, for example, if you have a recipe for one teaspoon of salt for an oven dish, I would double it for a slow cooked dish or the flavour will be bland because of the extra juices created by slow cooking
RULE: increase your seasoning and spices for great taste
. Most slow cookers do not add the colour to food (the golden brown created by frying and roasting) so food looks unappetizing. There are crockpots and slow cookers which do brown food, this one does not. Many recipes require a quick fry then add to the crock pot. I do the opposite to save time. I slow cook and turn off or set to warm til I get home. While I cook th rice orpasta…7-10 minutes , I will often place meats in the oven at high temperature for the same 10 minutes to brown it if needed. (This is notnecessary for Indian dishes in sauces…but for theseI remove all fat or chicken skin)
RULE: for certain meat dish colour quicly brown meats in the frying pan befor or after slow cooking
4. If creating s combined dish (chicken and potatoes pr bean and beef stew.always place the potatoes and /or beans at the bottom of the cooker bowl with meats on top. Why? The juices of the meats will help cook the beans / potatoes better as they cook by absorbing moisture. If you put the meat at the bottom and potatoes/ beans on top the steam and condensation is often not enough moisture for the harder root vegetables
RULE: Root vegetables below, meat on top

Only had Crock-Pot couple of weeks but each time I’ve used it I can’t understand why I’ve not had one before! Product is brilliant but unfortunately cannot say the same for the booklet that comes with it, which only has very basic instructions and a few recipes, would be great if it contained some helpful hints and tips and a few more ‘different’ recipes. There are thousands of varied recipes on the internet but it would have been good to have more in the booklet when first using the product.
5.0 out of 5 starsGood product 8 January 2019 Verified Purchase
It’s my first slow cooker and I’m happy to invest in crock pot as it works wonderfully so far. Everything matches the description and is very easy to use. I also don’t have any problems with the digital display as it was mentioned in other reviews – I can clearly read it from all angles and the distance. I think the only flow I can think of is that it automatically turns into “keep warm” mode after it’s done cooking. Quite convinient most of the time but let’s say you have the emergency and can’t get back home on time it’s going to keep running. And they only recommend to keep in on 4h max for safety reasons. So I wish there was an option to program it yourself and decide if you want to use this option or just get it to turn off after finished.
14 January 2019Verified Purchasei kept going through slow cooker after slow cooker because I was buying cheap ones, this is really good, easy to clean as it’s all dishwasher safe, nothing sticks to it, I have put meat in with no sauce and it doesnt stick! would totally recommend!
Ifyou need a slow cooker or are thinking of getting one, the crock pot……….is an excellent investment and should last you a good 2-3 years minimum. I think when you add up all the destressed nights that it offers you, you will be happy with your purchase. I did 2-3 slow cooker nights a week. (They were never Fridays which was our pizza, fish and chips night!)
A slow cooker that has a programmable timer, 3 cooking levels, a hinged lid, is dishwashable, can go straight to table and has an auto turn off which not let you down and as an investment will resell easily as well, should you ever need to.
Try out the new freedom you gain from buying this and let me know if you enjoy the great food!
