Crock-Pot Lift & Serve Digital Slow Cooker with Hinged Lid and Programmable Countdown Timer, 4.7 Litre, CSC052

While Crock-Pot slow cookers are not strictly smart products, they have many smart characteristics! The best one is time-saving!

There was a time in my life when my husband and I, like so many other people, were working round the clock with 3 little kids in tow! Our Crock-Pot slow cooker was our saving grace. We didn’t have the energy to come home after work and taxiing the kids to then start cooking a meal.

It’s not that I don’t like cooking – in fact, I enjoy it but I want to do other things too.

So enter the Crock-Pot slow cooker.

A lot of my friends will not use a slow cooker because they are afraid they will start a fire if they forget it was on or get delayed or forget it is on.

The Crock-Pot Winning Features

Yup, love a Crock-Pot slow cooker. It has saved me soooo many stress hours.

Just like the little video says. There’s nothing better than opening your door after a long day and being greeted by wafts of curried chicken and potato or Irish stew.

Let’s have a look at the winning features.

  1. Easy-to-use locking lid with rubber gasket provides extra seal for less mess on-the-go
  2. Serves 7+ people
  3. 3.6-Quart Capacity
  4. Digital Countdown control lets you program cook-times anywhere from 30 minutes up to 20 hours
  5. Shifts to warm setting automatically once cook time is up
  6. Easy-Grip Handle
  7. Removable oval stoneware
  8. Durable Locking Hinged Lid detaches for easy cleaning
  9. Dishwasher-safe stoneware and glass lid

Automatic Switch to Warming

I think the top feature of this Crock-Pot slow cooker is the automatic switch to warm feature at the end of cooking. This convenient feature will keep the cooked meal warm until you arrive home.

This has been my godsend many times as meetings would over- run or I would have to make an extra stop on the way home. It also solves the number one slow cooker concern of my friends. They always say that they would forget the slow cooker is on so they don’t use one. They worry about burning food and possibly even starting a fire at home.

Programmable and Flexible

I really find the programmable feature very useful as well. I have owned about 4 crock-pots in my life. This Crock-Pot slow cooker model with the switch to warm and programming feature was the best…which is why I am telling you about it!

It means you can cook overnight or delay the start from 30 minutes to 20 hours! It also has 3 temperature settings which allows you to cook a variety of food without over cooking it (see recipes later)

Quite often I would put frozen chicken in my Crock-Pot slow cooker before I went to bed…with my spices. It would thaw and the spices would act as a seasoning/marinade. I would set my time for say 5 hours of cooking for a curry and thus was because the potatoes took longer to cook in the slow cooker. So because I was doing it at 11pm at night I could preset my cooker to 13 hours and delay the start for 8 – 9 hours.

I did this because in the rush of the morning I often forgot the on button! This way…I could forget about it!

Hinged Lid

Another cool feature is the lid which has a lock grip. It sounds like nothing but it’s a big deal because the lid is full of condensation and drips water all over the counter when you take it off and rest it somewhere!

By having the hinge you can open and the lid stays on and all the condensation will dribble back into the stoneware. No mess!

The lid is also great because it locks, which means you can drive with the stoneware and the lid won’t shift en route! Convenient!

Dishwasher safe

Lastly, note that the lid and stoneware are dishwasher safe? No messy cleanups! Slow cooking will often leave baked on particles to the bowl but you don’t have to scrub!

Just soak in hot water to loosen it and then put it in the dishwasher. And because the lid is dishwasher proof AND DETACHABLE the handle won’t brake(as has happened to me with other models!) They kinds thought of everything, Crockpot!

About Crock Pot

The Crock-Pot® slow cooker, is used all over the world and came to market 40 – 50 years ago, initially as a bean cooker! At that time, the Crock-Pot® brand revolutionized the way homecarers could serve an affordable, tender, delicious meal to their families using inexpensive cuts of meat and gave busy moms caring for their family freedom with a convenient cooking method that helped reduce time in the kitchen. Slow cookers are now included in many family memories as a recollection of favorite dishes and cooking aromas!

Today the Crock Pot slow cooker has evolved and owns many formats and ways of cooking.

The Crock-Pot® brand continues to advance with new innovations that meet the demands of today’s modern lifestyles and help fulfill self-expression of creative cooks at home. From manual slow cookers to fully-programmable, automatic-stirring slow cookers, we continue to develop products that address the needs of households today.

Benefits of Programmable Slow Cooking

1. Tougher cuts will fall off the bone.

Chicken pork, beef, lamb. When these are cooked quickly they lose moisture and can be tough. With a slow cooker, throw them in with a few spices and leave for 4-6 hours and g out! When you return to serve up, those meats will be juicy and tender. It also means you can buy less expensive meats because slow cooking improves their quality!

2. Healthy Meals

When you are rushing with work, you can often opt for fast food which is often more unhealthy with sugars and fasts. This way you know EXACTLY what is going into your meal and you provide and train your family to opt for healthier meals.

3. Time Saving

I cannot stress this enough. When working all day I LOVED coming home to my crock pot stews, curries and soups, ready to spoon up! Often I would stick on some pasta or rice and go change. It would be done ready for the table when I came back to the kitchen. Bliss!

4. Reduced Washing Up

Maybe people don’t care about less washing up with all the dishwashers in existence. Its in one pot…therefore less washing up!

5. Really Safe

It is a great benefit have the automatic shut-off. It calms many fears that the slow cooker is not dependent on you being there to switch it off. Not all slow cookers have this feature.

I would highly recommend only buying slow cookers that have an automatic shut-off. The fact that this crock-pot switches to a warming feature is great because your meal is still warm if you arrive home after delays!

Tips and Tricks

A lot of people don’t know HOW to cook with Crock-pot slow cookers and get frustrated after one try. So being a slow cooker fan, here are my tips.

1. Slow cooking is different to stove top and oven cooking in that all the moisture is retained when slow cooking while it evaporates with stove top and oven cooking. This is because it is cooked slowly under a lid. The slower process under lid retains any juices.

As a result slow cooking needs less than half the amounts of liquids added in comparison to over and cook top dishes. If you add too much liquid your pot will be runny.

RULE: Add much less (very little liquids to your food prep in a slow cooker)

2. Slow cooking also absorbs much more flavouring to food than oven /cook top foods. This is because, as above, evaporation occurs much less with slow cooking. So, for example, if you have a recipe for one teaspoon of salt for an oven dish, I would double it for a slow cooked dish or the flavour will be bland because of the extra juices created by slow cooking

RULE: increase your seasoning and spices for great taste

. Most slow cookers do not add the colour to food (the golden brown created by frying and roasting) so food looks unappetizing. There are crockpots and slow cookers which do brown food, this one does not. Many recipes require a quick fry then add to the crock pot. I do the opposite to save time. I slow cook and turn off or set to warm til I get home. While I cook th rice orpasta…7-10 minutes , I will often place meats in the oven at high temperature for the same 10 minutes to brown it if needed. (This is notnecessary for Indian dishes in sauces…but for theseI remove all fat or chicken skin)

RULE: for certain meat dish colour quicly brown meats in the frying pan befor or after slow cooking

4. If creating s combined dish (chicken and potatoes pr bean and beef stew.always place the potatoes and /or beans at the bottom of the cooker bowl with meats on top. Why? The juices of the meats will help cook the beans / potatoes better as they cook by absorbing moisture. If you put the meat at the bottom and potatoes/ beans on top the steam and condensation is often not enough moisture for the harder root vegetables

RULE: Root vegetables below, meat on top

Only had Crock-Pot couple of weeks but each time I’ve used it I can’t understand why I’ve not had one before! Product is brilliant but unfortunately cannot say the same for the booklet that comes with it, which only has very basic instructions and a few recipes, would be great if it contained some helpful hints and tips and a few more ‘different’ recipes. There are thousands of varied recipes on the internet but it would have been good to have more in the booklet when first using the product.

5.0 out of 5 starsGood product 8 January 2019 Verified Purchase

It’s my first slow cooker and I’m happy to invest in crock pot as it works wonderfully so far. Everything matches the description and is very easy to use. I also don’t have any problems with the digital display as it was mentioned in other reviews – I can clearly read it from all angles and the distance. I think the only flow I can think of is that it automatically turns into “keep warm” mode after it’s done cooking. Quite convinient most of the time but let’s say you have the emergency and can’t get back home on time it’s going to keep running. And they only recommend to keep in on 4h max for safety reasons. So I wish there was an option to program it yourself and decide if you want to use this option or just get it to turn off after finished.

5.0 out of 5 starsBest slow cooker I have ever used

14 January 2019Verified Purchasei kept going through slow cooker after slow cooker because I was buying cheap ones, this is really good, easy to clean as it’s all dishwasher safe, nothing sticks to it, I have put meat in with no sauce and it doesnt stick! would totally recommend!

Wrapping Up

Ifyou need a slow cooker or are thinking of getting one, the crock pot……….is an excellent investment and should last you a good 2-3 years minimum. I think when you add up all the destressed nights that it offers you, you will be happy with your purchase. I did 2-3 slow cooker nights a week. (They were never Fridays which was our pizza, fish and chips night!)

A slow cooker that has a programmable timer, 3 cooking levels, a hinged lid, is dishwashable, can go straight to table and has an auto turn off which not let you down and as an investment will resell easily as well, should you ever need to.

Try out the new freedom you gain from buying this and let me know if you enjoy the great food!

  1. My wife like to cook so this is an article I will definitely bookmark as she will find it very interesting. I have tried various meals from a slow cooker and I liked how they turned out. We don’t have one currently so the one you suggest looks a good one to consider. Thanks for the info.

    1. You are welcome. Remember Crock-Pot offer a FREE recipe book and of course they test their recipes to perfection. I confess I am lazy so i only want 5 or so ingredients…but have you seen the desserts from the slow cooker? Oh Man!!!!

Crock Pot also offer the Express Crock which is  a pressurecooker as well… I will be reviewing that this week…forthose who want quickfood!;)

Watch this space as I review other Smart Devices.

  2. Your review about this pot is awesome, even though I have never come across such pot until now. This is a cooking equipment ( as I will say) I will like to have in my kitchen any moment from now. The way it even warms food before your arrival is so great and makes it even more interesting. The slow cooking and the likes. Thanks for sharing such, really helpful.

    1. Fasuan,

All I can say is it is too sweet.

I am not a red meat person…I actually lean towards more bean dishes like aduki bean pies etc. Butlet me say , my hubby and sons love lamb and inthe slow cooker is is amazing! So are any form of roast. The meat just melts. And all i do is stick it in which seasonings from the supermarket and a tiny bit of water and go. Its ready to eat after work And i just sit, have a glass of wine , watch some news then serve up…lol

  3. My wife and I have a slow cooker that we have used a great deal. However, ours is a bit of an older model, so it only has a dial with Warm, Low, and Hot settings. One of the things I really like about the one you highlighted is that it is programmable. Being able to have it automatically move to either a “warm” setting or completely shut of is a huge benefit as is the automatic, delayed start!

One of my worst memories was a day my wife and I went skiing and were expecting a delicious chili to warm us up after a day on the slopes…when we came home, we smelled nothing and realized we had forgotten to turn it on that morning!

Thanks for this review and I will definitely have to look into this one!

    1. lolol….. I’ve done that too! And you feel so deflated when you realize there’s no cooked dinner waiting!

      It’s exactly why i specified the PROGRAMMABLE option…because I’ve been there…..

  4. Hi Liz,

Awesome review, I really liked the reading!

I’ve never used a slow cooker until now, it will be the first time, and that’s why I am reading plenty of reviews about it. I find your review to be the most well explained so far. I will take a look at this slow cooker on Amazon. Just a question, please. if there is a problem with the product, will I be able to change it? In other words, how long is the warranty?

Thank you for this excellent post!

    1. Hi Daniella,  Crock Pot as you know is a highly respected company and  is the  Sunbeam corporation. Subeam used to make all the mixers in the 50s…my mum had a mixer that lasted for about 30 years of my life! So quality is good with the Crock Pot.

They have a warranty page with all the standard and extended warranties but they may vary depending on which country you are in.

      Check it out here

…. and enjoy the great meals. My favourite is the chicken and sweet potato curry (using the harger white sweet potatoes) and naan or chapatis….. yuuuuuuummmm!

  5. I have been looking for a new crockpot for a while now. My crockpot is 8 years old and I never really figured it out properly. It doesn’t have any indication when it is on and it is very big and very heavy. I also don’t like that the lid isn’t see through- I like to see when the food looks nearly done- picking up the lid the whole time slows down the cooking process. Thanks for the recommendation. My budget was at about £40 so that’s perfect!

    1. Hollie…. say what? You know …my mum had one like that and she NEVER used it!! And the thing is she was always so tired ofcooking daily…she is ofthat headspace. So I bought her one of these and she would trot off to church on Sundays and come home to fall of the bone roast chicken done in her slow cooker! in fact …she would go and have a nap! Lol.

This slowcooker is on special…so watch that space!

  6. This is absolutely wonderful review on pot. I never knew for technology has gone far to this extent. I am still amazed with this SLOW COOKER’s pot. I mean this is beautiful to see. It;s just something like Microwave. just in that mode. After it finishes cooking, it gonna switched to automatic warming. How sweet. The Time saving features has really wowed me. I’m gonna go for this

    1. If you are a parent… lemme tell ya…. sweet for days. I have used the slow cooker for over 15 yeats and i have 3 kids and ran 3 companies. And I am still a mum and a wife. My husband can’t say enough about the slow cooker and as Crock Pot says, family memories are built around it.

  7. Hey,

Really p;eased with this slow cooker .It is really easy to use and to clean .It is my first slow cooker and I am happy to invest in crock pot as it works wonderfully so far . I use a crock pot mainly for making soup and casseroles . The lift off hinged lid is an excellent idea .It took a few tries to work out recipes correctly as the lid traps all moisture .This crock pot is used at least 3 times a week at present and i can see it begin put to work more frequently when the winter arrives . Thanks for sharing this excellent product .

    1. Hey Arnaiemhasan,

I hear you and the trials with the recipes…it took me a few attempts too…that’s exactly why I added the rules. But I think once you follow a couple of slowcooker recipes you get the idea. I confess I’m very lazy so I throw in the chicken and herbs and salt  and that’s it ! When I get in I top up with a little salt pepper and  maybe brown it in the oven. Always tastes better the next day!!There are crockpots that can brown as well. Check out more recipes on instagram #crockpot recipes

  8. Thank you for sharing with us such a great review on crock-pot slow cookers.I am not a fan of slow cookers but with this review I got attracted by the way this crock-pot works.

I always fear such stuff when it comes to washing them, but it seems that this one is special for sure.I will recommend my friends to buy it because I still use my old one.

    1. Hi Julieene…no fear here! The ceramic bowl lifts out and can be washed in the dishwasher. The heating element doesn’t go near the water! The ceramic is heat proof naturally…it could even go in the oven!

  9. Hi Liz,

Looking at your images I have no doubt that these slow cookers are an excellent current way to cook food today. I am not a professional chef but I think that the hermetic closure of this pot allows us to obtain unique flavors in our meals.

Of course, being programmable both at the beginning and at the end of cooking guarantees security and saves our time. I will consult with my wife before making the purchase. Thank you very much for all the information provided.

    Greetings. Claudio

  10. This is really great. I have a rice cooker that has similar features to this product. It automatically switches to warm as well, that’s my favorite feature. I think the crock pot is perfect for persons who have to work and take care of thier families. Personally, I dread coming home after a long day at work, trying to figure out what to prepare for dinner. I have always wanted to start preparing dinner before I leave for work. However, I would have to come home and reheat the food and I don’t like using the microwave. Getting one of these crock pot is definitely on my list of things to get. This would be one less stressful event for me each day. My only question is, how energy efficient is this product?

    Awesome post!

    1. Thanks Brenda.  I have to say… I love  love love the conveneience of the slow cooker…andyou don’t have to use it every day or it might get boring. Crock pot offer free recipes and you can do desserts in it too!

That is a great question about energy efficiency. Ovens ue the most power and microwaves the least. But microwaves can’t really do stews or melting off the bone curries and  red meat! To get details about the excellent energy conservation of slow cookers…read this report here! 8 hours of slow cooking is like a light bulb!

  11. Thanks for this informative review, I found this post very helpful by explaining in details the function of this amazing crock pot cooker,  it has great features, the programmable timer and also the auto off features are the major reason why I’m definitely going to get this product, thanks for reviewing such wonderful product.

    1. Hi Seun, get cooking and  show what a pro you are…lol.  It’s also a wonderful gift for any busy families in your life!

  12. Those people who are afraid to use Crock-pot because they may get things burnt as a result of being forgetful are not to blame. If however, I forget things easily, I will always ensure all my cooking are done at a go.

One feature I also prefer is the lock feature hinged lid. I can easily carry my launch about, in my car, while it’s still being warm.

    1. I agree. I have burnt many a slow cooked meal with my older crock pots until I discovered the programmable slow cooker where I can preset times AND switches to warming! I agree with you also that the locked  hinged lid is a big plus. People don’t realize how convenient it is , especially if you are travelling. Even at home! No rings of cooked damp stuff on the counter!

      Thanks for reading!
